EdU (5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine) is a pyrimidine analog that can be incorporated into the DNA double strand during DNA synthesis. The EdU assay is based on the click reaction, a copper-catalyzed atomic covalent reaction between an azide and an alkyne.
